Secure your preferred company name today and protect it until you’re ready to register and trade. If you’re planning to start a business in the future and want to ensure your chosen name isn’t taken by someone else, our company name reservation service offers a simple and reliable solution.

We register your chosen name with Companies House and handle all ongoing statutory obligations, ensuring your company remains compliant while it stays dormant.

How to Reserve a Company Name

While UK law does not allow company names to be formally “reserved,” our service works by registering a limited company using your chosen name. This places the name on the Companies House register, preventing other businesses from registering the same or a confusingly similar name.

Until you are ready to trade, we manage the company on your behalf. This includes filing dormant company accounts and the annual Confirmation Statement, so you don’t need to worry about compliance.

How It Works

  1. Choose your preferred package

  2. After payment, we will email you an application form

  3. Complete and return the form by email

  4. We will form the company and submit the details to Companies House

  5. The company is typically formed within 24 hours (often the same day)

  6. We maintain the company until you are ready to start trading

Important:
This service is renewable annually if you wish us to continue filing dormant accounts and Confirmation Statements. The service is available only for companies registered in England and Wales.

I’ve Reserved a Company Name – How Do I Take Full Control of the Company?

If we have reserved a company name on your behalf and you are now ready to take full control and begin trading, please email your request to cosec@mycompanyregistration.uk

, quoting your company name.

In the same email, please confirm whether you wish to continue using our address as your registered office and officer service address, or if you would prefer to use your own address.

Important:

Your registered office and officer service address will appear on the public register, so please ensure you are comfortable with the address being publicly displayed.

Once we receive this information, we will start the process of transferring the company to you. After the transfer is complete, you will be responsible for meeting all ongoing statutory and annual company obligations.

Why Does a Limited Company Need to Be Created to Reserve a Name?

In the UK, no two companies can be registered with the same name. By forming a limited company using your chosen name—even if you are not yet ready to trade—you prevent others from registering that name.

This is particularly useful if you currently operate as a sole trader or partnership, as it ensures that no limited company can be incorporated using the same business name.

Why Would I Choose to Reserve a Company Name?

Many people reserve a company name to protect a brand or future business idea. A company name is a key part of your identity, and once registered, it cannot be used by another company.

Reserving a company name involves incorporating a limited company, which we then manage and keep dormant until you are ready to take control. During this time, we file the Dormant Accounts and Confirmation Statement with Companies House on your behalf, ensuring the company remains compliant.

What Happens If I No Longer Need the Reserved Company?

If you decide you no longer need the reserved company, it must be formally dissolved at Companies House. We can assist with this through our Company Dissolution Service.

Do I Have Responsibilities When Reserving a Company Name?

If you have purchased our Reserve a Company Name service or its renewal, we will handle the filing of the Confirmation Statement and Dormant Accounts on your behalf, as long as the service remains active at the time of filing.

However, as the company director, you are responsible for notifying HMRC that the company is dormant. HMRC can only discuss tax matters directly with company directors.

Further guidance on contacting HMRC and notifying dormant status can be found via official HMRC resources.

Please note:
You must not trade using the company while it is held under the Reserve a Company Name service.
