Why Register for PAYE?

If you plan to employ staff—including yourself—you must register as an employer with HMRC. The system, known as Pay As You Earn (PAYE), collects Income Tax and National Insurance Contributions (NICs) from eligible employees. If you want to pay yourself a salary as a director, PAYE registration is required.

What Information Do I Need to Register for PAYE?

When completing the online registration form, you will need to provide your contact details and the following information:

  • Business trading address

  • Description of your company’s activities

  • Number of employees (can be just the director)

  • First scheduled payday

  • Whether any employee earns more than £390 per month

  • Details of any subcontractors

  • Director’s full name and National Insurance number

How Does the PAYE Application Process Work?

Once you complete the online form and it has been reviewed and approved by us, we will submit the application to HMRC on your behalf.

After successful registration, HMRC will send a letter confirming your PAYE reference, along with a guide to help you get started with payroll reporting.
